Dan Cammish: On the home straight

Hello everyone and welcome to my latest blog from British Formula Ford. It has been a while since my last post as the last few weeks have been very busy indeed. We have recently raced at Silverstone, Snetterton and Brands Hatch where we supported the DTM and Formula 3 Euro Series.

This season is continuing to be one of frustration and even though I am 3rd in the championship it could have been so much better. I ran out of fuel at Oulton Park, I was rolled over at Knockhill, I had no brakes at Castle Combe and I had never driven a test lap of Brands Hatch in my life. Oh and at Rockingham I went from topping 2 days of testing to qualifying 1 second off the pace and I can honestly say it had nothing to do with me.

All things considered it has been a challenging season, or as my Dad would say “character building”. A snap shot of the championship standings would show I have had a poor season, well beaten by the Jamun Mygale of Scott Pye. In reality if I do eventually finish 3rd in the championship I will have done it on a third of the budget and for that I am very proud.

This season it has been very difficult to find sponsorship and as a result I have been doing very little testing, to the point where I am now doing 1 day to every 3 or 4 of the other top drivers. I am not complaining though, if I had the budget I would be doing exactly the same. All I can do is my best when I get the opportunity and I think I have done just that. I had a win at Zandvoort which was fantastic and I have run at the very front all season long, something which is difficult in a championship as tough as British Formula Ford.

I am now looking forward to Donington and Brands Hatch where I hope to finish my season with a bang. All I have to do now is find some money to get there.

    Aw didums…….its so sad……..sob, sob……..you are so poor Dan that when you did win the only race that you have so far managed to win in two seasons you had to sell all your relatives so that you could afford to pay for an advert in Autosport magazine telling everyone that you had won…………sob, sob………..and it wasn’t your fault…..there, there…….and I don’t know how you find the money to pay for that professional manager of yours who writes these silly blogs for you……..I know why don’t you fire him and use the money you save to do some more testing??

    You are a good driver Dan, really I mean that, but the fact is that you are in your 2nd full year in this championship and there are 2 rookies well ahead of you in the points table and I’m afraid lots of drivers are in your position and finding it very tough to find the money to keep going and that’s not just in the UK. I hope that you can find the money to finish the season……..have you checked down the back of the sofa? Love Morris x

    I was already laughing at your post when I then read this. Please define the term rookie? Its formula ford not Formula 1. Both Scotts have lots of experience, easily as much as me if not more. Its a new trye of which none of us have experience, a tubular chassis and an engine. Its hardly rocket science.

    As for my professional manager, the blogs and the advert. Well i write the blogs, I don’t have a manager and the advert was a nice gesture from a friend. So thats 0 for 3.

    So to confirm what I alredy knew…you know absolutely nothing. I know who you are Morris, and it makes this all the more pathetic and sad. Even more so than my lack of a testing budget. Not too worry though, I have a bright future. You will read about it soon.

    Morris, thanks for leaving this on my Sons blog, you are entitled to an opinion, it is like a lot of your posts misplaced and ill formed but never the less an opinion which after all is what makes all sport interesting, as regards year 2 drivers then you are correct Dan is behind 2 “rookies” but perhaps with your massive knowledge of the sport and connections within you would know that it was generally considered to be a disadvantage early in the season to have knowledge of last years Avon tyres therefore the Rookie stuff is basically designed as an insult to Dan from you for reasons I dont understand and perhaps you should seek advice from professionals on the “rage you carry within” it must be quite a burden to carry, I hope it does not get in the way of your wellbeing in the short time you spend away from the Motor Sport websites. As regards the advert it was designed to mark the culmination of an 8 year journey that started with a go-kart on a roof rack, for us just to be on a single seater grid has meant massive family sacrifice surely we were allowed 1 day in the sun, it is after all why we all get up at daft times and drag tired bodies to Kart tracks, I am sorry if the advert offended you, we liked it and it will be treasured by our family long after Dan has retired from racing.
    As all the top drivers get lots of Track Time, I dont think that Scott Pye or Scott Malverns people are selling them as Rookies, quite the contrary, FF cars are easy to learn and drive the guys with raw talent pedal them fast from day 1 they always have, did Ayrton Senna need a year to get up to speed in FF answer no, did Jenson Button anwer no, has Scott Pye answer no,, I thought you would have known that?!!. Anyway no worries, I am sure you find something satisfying about leaving this type of email, I let you get on and I will start looking down the the back of our sofa, cheers PC

    At it again are we Morris? It seems you’ve found someone new to focus your uninformed speculation on. And of course, clued up as always now aren’t we. Have you finally become bored of spouting your mindless opinions on ten tenths?.. Unlikey. I feel you should be advised to keep your assumptions to yourself, it’s quite frankly embarrassing how often you are found to be wrong. Perhaps stop now before the inevitable occurs. Regards.

    Another blog post attacking Dan yawn…. Interestingly enough we know who you are due to your IP address and I know you’re not worth the effort in replying to but I will just answer a few of your questions.

    Dan knew nothing about the Autosport advert as I arranged it and paid for most of it with a very kind contribution from Marilyn Tandy from JTR who were equally pleased with Dan’s break through win. The first Dan knew about it was when Marilyn showed Dan on the Thursday before Castle Combe race weekend.

    I haven’t been involved in Dan Cammish’s management since the end of last season. Dan doesn’t have a manager but does get advice from a number of people. I came to some of the earlier races in 2010 to support Dan as we have become good friends and I enjoyed coming to some of the closer races that didn’t clash with my current plans. I did get involved with the switch to a Mygale chassis after it became clear that the Spectrum was not going to challenge the dominant Mygale. I haven’t written 1 single blog for Dan. Dan himself writes all of them. Like most underfunded drivers he discusses a lack of funding but that is just reality.

    Why should Dan be expected to win the championship just because he is in his 2nd year in Formula Ford? I don’t see you posting about Josh Hill who has now done over 90 Formula Ford tests and is also in his 3rd season of racing including 2 with the best Formula Ford team in history of the formula? Has Scott Pye not done 3 seasons in Australian Formula Ford (Regional & National) and also done over 40 tests for Jamun in 2010 but you still class him as a rookie? Scott Malvern is also into his 2nd full year of racing so has just as much experience on track as Dan and although he also has limited testing he still managed to make it to tests at Zandvoort, Brands Hatch and Donington etc all venues Dan has not managed to test at? All 4 are very talented drivers but Dan is the only one that has changed teams and chassis mid way through the season that has made this season more difficult than it could have been. I think Formula Ford have found an exceptional talent in Scott Pye but I would like to think that Dan would have still been in the hunt had we he not joined the great team he is with now – JTR.

    Try not to confuse constructive criticism with jealousy.
