BLDS Couriers: Anglesey report

Round 3 of the National 1000cc Endurance series takes team BLDS Couriers to Anglesey race circuit. The team are really gelling now and looking for a good result and another podium finish.

The wind is howling across the paddock in the night and the team wake to a damp circuit rapidly drying in the wind, for the Superpole race the team are 5th on the Grid. Jonty heads off and gets a good start, but the leading pair have pulled a little gap by the time, he has battled through to 3rd and trying to close the gap – Jonty puts in the fastest lap of the race. The pit stop goes well and Bill heads out holding a strong 3rd place, after a great battle the team finish 5th in class to give us our starting position for the main event on Sunday.

Again overnight the weather is terrible – this time the track’s not dry in the morning and team BLDS set off to a good start setting the second fastest time in wet practice. However, come race time everyone is on full dry tyres. Again Jonty starts the race getting away well and maintaining 3rd place and setting some consistent lap times. The next few session all go according to plan with Bill getting faster and faster on the BLDS Honda – however Bill’s second stint the pace car is out and the team lose a lap through no fault of their own, the grid is all tight behind the car and so the team pit allowing Jonty the opportunity to get past riders early and try to claw some time back – however another rider follows him through the pack and takes out the back wheel of Jonty’s GSXR coming through the Corkscrew causing both riders to fall and the BLDS team lose even more time. The bike is OK and Jonty finishes the session putting Bill is out for the last 25 minutes – he’s off like a scolded cat setting his fastest times of the race in the last 10 minutes – however the damage is already done and the team fire over the line 5th in class.

So an eventful weekend with some crash damage and pride to fix before the next round at Snetterton 300. But all in all a good team performance with slick timing and pit stops and some good riding from both Bill and Jonty.
